Unlisted products on Shopify: What the new product status means
At the end of October 2025, Shopify introduced a new product status to complement the existing Active, Draft, and Archived statuses. This new status is called Unlisted and is designed to simplify scenarios that previously required workarounds for merchants.
What is an unlisted product and when can it be used?
An unlisted product has its own page like other active products, but it is not visible on your storefront and can only be accessed via its direct URL. This makes it ideal for several use cases, including:
- Products used as gifts in an order (not normally for sale)
- Products sold as part of a bundle
- Providing early access to new or limited products
- Warranty or any other add-ons

What are the key facts about unlisted products?
- They are removed from your store’s XML sitemap, so search engines cannot find the product page.
- They are excluded from Shopify catalogs.
- They do not appear in Shopify-powered collection pages, search results (including predictive search), or product recommendations.
- The unlisted product page includes
noindexandnofollowmeta tags. - Unlisted products cannot be published to the Shop app, Shopify POS, or any third-party sales channels.
- If third-party apps do not support the unlisted status, the products may still appear as Active.
- For developers: Unlisted products cannot be accessed by custom apps through the Storefront API.
Important note: Just to remind, unlisted products are still purchasable via their direct URL. Customers can add them to their cart unless you customize the unlisted product pages to prevent purchases. So, if you do not want the product to be purchasable, change its status to Draft.
And that’s it! Unlisted products offer flexibility for specific use cases while keeping your selected products hidden from general browsing. If you have any questions about unlisted products or want to discuss scenarios where they might be beneficial, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
